Senior API Engineer

What We Need
Meritas Digital is seeking an experienced, passionate Senior API Engineer to join our founding team as one of our first ten employees—a foundational role in building a world-class technical consulting firm. You will guide our clients in identifying optimal integration solutions, then lead the hands-on design, development, and implementation of elegant, scalable RESTful APIs and microservices. As a key contributor to our early growth, you’ll shape our technical direction, mentor future hires, and help establish a culture of innovation and excellence.

You’re a seasoned software leader with a passion for crafting high-quality, extensible APIs that solve real-world problems. You thrive on innovation, take pride in writing discoverable, reusable code, and are eager to grow into client-facing responsibilities. Your expertise in C# and .NET, combined with a strong understanding of RESTful principles, allows you to collaborate with stakeholders to discover their needs, then design and enhance APIs and Microservices that solve those needs. You’re comfortable diving into existing codebases to improve quality and chart a path forward. You’re excited to learn or apply TypeScript/Node.js, embrace Agile practices, and value modular, efficient, productized solutions. You’re a humble, hungry, and emotionally intelligent team player (inspired by The Ideal Team Player by Patrick Lencioni). Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using C#/.NET.
- Write clean, maintainable, and discoverable code using best practices.
- Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and clients to define API specifications.
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and system design for long-term scalability.
- Enhance existing APIs, improving code quality and performance.
- Implement and maintain API security measures.
- Contribute to front-end development (Angular/React) as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Proven ability to write working software.
- Proven ability to write highly discoverable and extensible software.
- Proficiency in C# and .NET.
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles.
- Experience with Git and Agile methodologies, especially Scrum.
- Experience with database systems and queries (SQL and NoSQL).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to play well with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building APIs with TypeScript/Node.js or a strong desire to learn.
- Experience with API gateways and management platforms.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
- Experience with frontend frameworks (Angular or React).
